you should have two buttons  Join by IP & a regular Join button...

I only have the Join IP button:

The Join Game button is in the top right corner. I don't know why they put the Join Game button there instead of the Join IP button. Makes more sense to me but it doesn't really matter. They both work the same if you have the game you want to join selected, just click "OK" or whatever it is.. when the Join IP button pops up with a window that has an IP box and a Password box it.

EDIT: Just saw your last post, don't know why you don't have the Join Game button. The info above is still relevant though.

Ah ok. That means eveyrthings fine then. I can get that box and put all the info in.

Only problem then is that it says it times out

He doesn't have it because he does not have a game selected that he can join.  You can only join games that have white text.

OM is correct. See the (V) in your screenshot? That tells you that it's the wrong version patch and therefore you will not be able to join those games.

In previous versions, you can specify /poweruser on the commandline to show all games, even ones you cannot join, 1.3 just has that on by default.  You can turn it off in the gameprefs file if it bugs you.

Ah ok. Thanks!!! How can I find out what patch the other person is using?

I can pretty much guarantee that most of the games on that list are running 1.2.

I'm not sure why 1.3 doesn't show the version of other games in the little info box to the right of the map picture.

OK Thanks. I'll uninstall Battlezone 2, reinstall it and install the v1.2 patch and see how it goes.

Thankyou soooo much everyone who's helped!

You don't have to uninstall, just make multiple installs of BZ2, so you can run all three patches, if you wish. To do this just copy your install of BZ2 that you get fresh off the disc, and copy it to any other location. Then install whatever you want on it.  :-D

Don't you just double click the name of the game you want to join, on the list?

Since patch 1.3pb2 has come out, I've actually noticed new players. Some haven't played on the net before, and some have come back from a 3 year haitus or something. But all of these people don't know that you can install the game multiple times. It blows their mind when you tell them to do it too. From what I've been reading, there are a few ways to do it. I always open windows explorer and right click hardrive and create a new folder, name it whatever you want and  then use windows explorer to look at contents of cd and double-click set-up to install game to new folder. Then make sure to install patch to that same folder. Isn't this the best way?

Yep. I have BZ2 installed in about 6 different places.

The easiest way is simply to keep a clean install and then copy it whenever you want to use it, though you seem to be doing the same thing just via a cd axe.

I have 3 installs, all on an external hard drive that is shared between my LT and my PC (1.1, 1.2 and the latest 1.3)

I was just over at Timedisruptor and I saw this http://www.timedisruptor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=18872#18872 :(

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you can join games even if you don't have the right patch... Just can't enter the game (can talk, but not play)

No, you can't even talk.

It shouldn't be possible for any different version of BZ2 to join a game. There's plenty of checks in the code to prevent that.

If you want to talk, use 1.3's chatroom.

That kinda defeats the purpose.

Just wondering, is anyone else having timeout errors when they try to join multiplayer? I get it every game I try, except my pings are under 300.

But 1.3's chat room is simple IRC that you can join with any IRC client you know. :)

Only if you know how to use IRC ;)

You don't even need to know how to use irc.  You get a timeout because it's the wrong version most likely, or if you have a firewall which is blocking that.  If your using pb2 and the game is in RED then there is a different version, this is why you can't join.

You have no idea how many people come into the chatroom and ask for the game to be unlocked so they can play.  *Ammo*ing PITA.

Case in point, accessing a chat box (irc, whatnot...) is not wanted mid-game. :)
