"about your credit rating, it was never more than a cheap trick to keep you paying and paying. "

Ive read on a another board someone saying they had a similar problem with 1&1 and that they did pay the NCO Financial debt collectors, but that they got a new second bill almost a year later (when they were no longer doing any business whatsoever with 1&1) with harassment to pay it, its no longer horrible costumer service its outright extortion! What kind of crap is this, if paying the extortion doesnt get the hassle over with, Im reconsidering paying myself. I think I will register a complaint with the BBB, CPA and if need be with the Attorney General of Pensylvania.

Be a little more vigilant these days, I think we might be about to experience an increase in some companies trying to squeeze a little extra cash from their customers with an array of small print surprizes, hidden fees, billing "mistakes", etc.

I heard a finance pundit (who predicted the Iceland collapse when everyone else thought it was a northern Tiger) warn about it but didnt think anything of it. Now I find 1and1 hosting with whom have had no problem so far pull an unwarrented fee that it transfered to a debt collection agency with debt collection fees as high as the initial fee itself. I will pay for this fraud like many other victims of 1and1's aberant practices because it would cost more in litigation fees, time and hassle to fight it than pay the small charge, my credit rating might be tarnished over this for the love of god, but it doesnt make sense because Ive now decided Im closing my account so they will loose 10 times more in the next few months than the racketerring fee they pulled. go figure.
UPDATE: I recommend checking out Web Hosting companies at the better business bureau (or local equivalent like Customer Protection Agency etc), some have horrible ratings and complaint history while others have satisfactory practices, you cant tell by the companies site itself or the review site(that post ads about the company the are reviewing) either. It turns out 1&1 is not accredited and has an F rating(worst) at the BBB(with hundreds of registered complaints), I should have checked it out before signing up, and I sure will check that before I get another host.

Anyway, an ounce of prevention/caution is worth a pound of cure
keep an eye open

Battlezone 2 / Re: Why Walkers?
February 23, 2009, 07:10:28 PM
Imo Walkers are not plausibly appropriate for Main Battle units but there are situations (in sci-fi settings) where Small humanoid walkers(manipulator arms) and tall multilegged(tripod-quad-6) would make some sense;

General purpose Support vehicle:
walker with arms and hands that can switch modular weapons(made for mecha, like in Heavy Gear) or Tools, and perform field base operations such as lifting cargo, base assembly manipulations, etc

Occupation:
the main battle is over, you are left with an insurgency expercted to be using light weapon abush, sniper and IEDs.
- In this case a humanoid robot vehicle can replace troops to avoid snipers(check point) and is easier for the population to relate to (the robot can gesture with hand for car to stop/ go left) and can perform actions a typical vehicle cant easily do open doors, remove debris, place fence, inspect a trunk.
- A very tall walker(WotW Tripod, HL strider, Quad) could make patrols with its high vantage point, and could conceivably survive an IED with resilient and replacable legs (a leg or two might be blown but the relatively high core/torso might more easily survive than a wheeled/tracked vehicle at point blank range from the detonation) assuming the torso/head is built to survive the fall(and any occupants have belts/airbags etc, unlike typical tanks with their hard metal interior in which a minor fall can be deadly for its occupants).
In a riot-ish situation, where you dont want to crush or kill people, a tall walker with tentacles or arms, can more easily move over a crowd to pick a specific agitator or rescue a person, without exposing troops(in addition to the psycological intimidation effect).

Urban Guerrila Warfare:
A BattleArmor or nimble smaller mech/HeavyGear with arms can use urban terrain to hide more easily than other types of vehicles. You can enter a building and can use the arms and hands to move/tear out obstacles and pull the mecha out if debris obstruct its movement.

I cant find myself to justify huge armless 2 legged walkers, imo its small humanoid with arms or multi-legged(3-6) patroling walkers(small to huge).

"As a host, turn on weapon linking"

What does "weapon linking" do?

Should we select the Pentium (3?) Optimization in settings(graphic?) with a fairly recent computer (thats not a Pentium 3?

Maps and Modding / Re: Converting SP missions to IA/MPI?
February 23, 2009, 06:11:17 PM
Thanks TheJamsh and Nielk1

TheJamsh, one that I'd like to play in is the map from mission 13(I think) of FE, the one in an industrial(rusty metal with cranes) setting. Unless Im mistaken its the one from the spash screen in FE, I tried to find it in IA but couldnt find it, and it would be great to play that map in regular(not-FE) BZ2.

Ive looked around but cant find a map pack thats specifies its compatible with 1.3pb4a, did I miss it?

Maps and Modding / Converting SP missions to IA/MPI?
February 23, 2009, 02:35:59 PM
I love the SP campains in BZ2 and think there are many awsome maps in the single player missions of BZ2 and FE, and I was wondering if there was a Map Pack that has converted some of these existing SP maps into IA/MPI versions ? (I am not sufficiently familiar with the map editor to do this)

Is there a set of extra maps that works well with 1.3pb4a and thats easy to install?

the second link (RD FE MPI 13zip) does not appear to be working, I get a page with all sorts of stuff
#9
Ive been out of the loop for a while

a) Is FE compatible with the latest public 1.3?
b) Is G66 compatible with 1.3?

thanks

Public 1.3 Beta Archive / multiplayer after 2 years
August 27, 2004, 11:54:57 AM
I share your pain, I often find there's a handful of games most with different versions/mods/maps, the one game with the same version/mod/map as me at any given time usually has a Password (P) or (X) to top it off.

[If and when 1.3 gets rock solid, it would be nice to have a BZ2 1.3 Distributed for Free to a Massive Audience, I dont care if "I" paid for my game while others wouldnt(I have had my moneys worth and more already) or if joe blo sells his on ebay, I just want new gamers in sufficent numbers and with the same freaking version to be able to play MP with no hassles) ]

Why I still bother posting here is beyond me. :s

some SP mission are just too difficult, the easy setting make no difference.

Others have mentioned other maps (Ice planet)

As Scions in SP Mission "Crystals" I dont have half a base up and Sabres attack supported by no less than 5! Rocket Tanks.

Public 1.3 Beta Archive / Constructive Focus
August 04, 2004, 08:51:51 PM
I fear that numerous minor issues and 'would like's could clog or cloak a limited number of very vital issues to make 1.3 functional.

In light of the valued and limited nature of any eventual dev work on 1.3, i suggest

I- A FOCUSED FOR DEV LIST (description without opinions nor chatter)
focusing on comming up with a SHORT list of MAJOR issues, (ex: top 10 list) that is;
a) major bugs (major impact and frequent)
b) 1.3 features that although already accessible to players do not work.
c) hardcoded aspects that cannot be fixed nor tweaked by modders
for DEVs, in a very cartesian summary format that simply describes the issue period.

II-FOR MOD DISCUSSIONS
This being done, we can discuss seperatly about aspects that the community can acheive in some sort of  1.3 Default Mod. By this I mean no new units, or anything fancy, just basic unit balancing and other fixes/improvements that can be performed by modders in files familiar to modders, so that we can play on a common improved version of the 1.3 (or existing 1.3Beta).
Other personal MOD projects could take this default Mod as a stepping stone, as if it were the original 1.3 and go from there...
