If your copy of Windows 7 is 64-bit, then BZ2 WONT install. Same if you use Vista 64-bit.

You will have to copy it from a previously installed directory.

Hi,

I've no experience with Windows 7 yet, however BZ2 installed just fine on my 64 bit version of Vista Business N with SP1 (at the time, now SP2.)  I don't recall doing anything special to get things working - just using compatibility mode as is normal for older games.

Hi,

Thanks for the information...confession, I was playing on easy...still I'm getting better.  Just managed to hold my own and start pushing back on one of the maps - just ran out of time really as it's getting late.

I need to read up on some of the extra features G66 offers so I can understand what they are and get the most out of this.

One thing I will mention, have you made units smarter?  The reason I ask is because my Sabres and Scouts are effective now!  Had my little squad of 5 scouts take out 3 Maulers who were attacking one of my outlying Deployed Scavengers and they won!  They were assisted by the single remaining mobile turret I had there but nevertheless in vanilla they'd have been toast before they even got a lock on...I did lose 2 and the remaining 3 were decidedly unwell but still impressive!  It's really the faster 'lock-on' time that does it as they're attacking sooner rather than zooming around doing their own thing.

Might have time to complete a map tomorrow.

Hi,

I downloaded the new G66 2.0 Beta 19 just now and have been having a blast with it - very good work :)  I however have a question if I may?

I'm only playing against AI at the moment, just getting back into all things BZ. Anyway the two or three G66V2 maps I've tried so far have all left me at somewhat of a disadvantage as enemy (Scion in my case) Rocket Towers are spawned appearing to secure certain pools - usually the 2nd or 3rd logical choice from my base.  At first I thought the reward of capturing the pool would be down to which player (me or AI) who could build something to defeat these towers first...quite cool.  What I found out is that they actually appear to belong to the enemy team...is there any way to turn these off or are they part of the maps?

I don't tend to play fast games, but prefer to just build up my base and economy while slowly denying the enemy any pools they've secured...just my preference.

I am an old hand at BZII (but still a bit rubbish) and still have my original boxed copy on the shelf - just not played for quite a while, other than the odd blast with Steveeo's Recycler varient some time back.  Actually might be longer ago than I thought as this is the first time I've played BZ on my Vista build...

Any advice on configuring a game / map to remove those extra Turrets would be appreciated - or just some comments on what they're about if I'm missing something obvious.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Set your sky settings to [LOW] or [NONE] to rid yourself of this problem.

Thanks Steeveeo,

I should have paid a little more attention as had only just reinstalled BZ2 on my new system when PB4 came out so it was the first time on the Q6600 with 8800GT, previously I was on an older AMD 4200+ with 1950Pro.

Appreciate the info!

Hi all,

I've spotted a possible bug that's causing me a bit of headache here, not sure if anyone else has experienced it.

Basically I'm playing an Instant Action game and all is running well and suddenly the screen goes blue!  I can see certain models just fine such as Gun Towers and Sabre tanks strangely, but for some I can just see the shadowing on the model (not the model its self) - scouts being an example.  Also the framerate plunges to 1 or 2 per second from the silky smooth highs I was experiencing previously.

I hit Escape to bring up the menu but the colours are all wrong and I can't see the text, just the menu item outlines.  If I manage to save at this point (bl00dy hard as I can't see my mouse cursor either) quit, then reload everything is fine again - for a few minutes.

Every game I've tried so far has had this issue.  Weird eh?

For the Record here's my system spec:

Q6600
Asus iP35 P5k Motherboard
4gigs of Crucial Ram
BFG 8800GT OC2
Audigy 2
Hard disks and other gubbins...
Running XP Pro with SP3.

Any ideas?

I'm currently trying various graphics options to see if any particular feature is the culprit.

This issue regularly occurs after around 10-15 mins of gameplay - all other games play without issue.

Thanks,

Gary.

Hi,

Maybe I'll get the chance to play this weekend and look at trying some of the suggestions here.

TheJamsh:  Didn't know there was a G66 for 1.3pb3!  Used a vers of G66 it seems like years ago...heh, it probably WAS years ago...I'll have a search for that.

Btw: are there any reliable places to download Maps & Mods etc. these days?  I've tried some of the old Map sites I used to go to & often get broken links where content has been removed.  Just want to make sure I have downloads of all the most uptodate goodies such as good IA maps, G66 for 1.3pb3 etc.

...Just been playing a bit BZ2 on my new(-ish) 32" HD TV.  Nice.  Considering that's on an old Athlon 2400+ with a GeForce 4600 it's cool that it plays so well.  Still, I guess the 2400+ is far newer than BZ2...:-)

Hi Spawn,

Yes, that is my current tactic however they often tend to get 'bashed' out of place by repair trucks & the like.  This often leads to them either being destroyed as they become the primary target of any attackers, or they get knocked further into the base or behind a gun tower so become ineffective.

Hi,

Yep, I can confirm that 2.06 is installed :-)

Red Devil: I may well have a play if it's as straight-forward as you suggest - at least to get a Rocket Tower.  However I thought the way FE gives you the extra race options effectively stops it using whatever reccy variant I select?

I was wondering if the sub-menu approach used in Steeveeo's RV was particularly tricky for things such as Defences etc. as this is pretty cool.  Sorry but I've done Zero BZ2 modding myself so rather ignorant about much of it but will certainly have a go when time permits.

Thanks again for all the replies people, much appreciated - hopefully I'll have some time shortly to act on some of the advice given!  Supposed to be working at the moment but needed an internet break ;-)

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, exactly, morphing the FE dlls was exactly what I had in mind in order to override the Race Selected override...erm, if I knew what you were talking about lol ;-)

You've answered my question as I expected however that these two mods cannot coexist without significant effort.  It's a shame as both have a lot to offer & I miss those rocket towers as I need them in FE!

I should have the latest version of your Recycler Mod Steeveeo, only downloaded & started playing again fairly recently.

Guess I'll stick with keeping the two distinct versions available to play separately then, now all I need is some good maps for 1.3 pb3...both for FE & when I'm using SRV.

Maps and Modding / A quick hello with a question...
April 14, 2008, 09:39:37 AM
Hi all,

Only recently registered on the forums so thought I'd pop on & say hi.

I've been a fan of BZ2 pretty much since it's release & my original boxed copy is still on the shelf next to much newer titles.

I must say I'm impressed with the work the community has done with the numerous entertaining mods that have been created.  I like 1.3 pb3 & it appears to make a good base for further mods, my two favourites at the moment are Steeveeo's Recycler and the FE mod.  I tend to alternate between these two when I fancy a quick skirmish vs. the CPU - not got in to online multi player at all as I'd most likely suck lol.

I do have a quick question regarding Steeveeo's Recycler and FE if anyone has the time to comment...  basically is there any way I could use Steeveeo's Recycler with FE at the same time?  I current have two separate installs & just switch between the two.  I just love the Rocket Towers & the ability to store Bio Metal offered by Steeveeo and the extra units etc. offered by FE.

I've had a play myself & made it so that Steeveeo's Recycler variants can be selected from the game setup screen when creating an IA game, however I just get the standard Recycler when the game launches - I always play EDF.  I assume these two mods just work too differently to coexist?  Just wanted it for my IA skirmish games as I don't do multiplayer matches at all at the moment.

Any guidance anyone can give would be appreciated, even if it's just to say 'nope, not possible' as at least then I'll stop trying lol.

Cheers,

Scoob.
