Get a pool .xsi from the xsi pack (on bz2scrap)
Done.

Open the xsi  (in notepad) and edit the texture name to the name of your texture.
Which texture part? I see:

SI_Texture2D  {
                  "Z:/modelsdirectory/BANE/PICTURES/bane2.pic";

and later in the file I see this:

SI_Texture2D  {
                     "Z:/modelsdirectory/DarkPlanet/PICTURES/reflection3.pic";

And later still, I see this:

SI_Texture2D  {
                     "Z:/modelsdirectory/BANE/PICTURES/bane2.pic";

Do I need to edit one of these, some of these, or all of these?

Chili might be difficult to do well, but I'll see what sort of pineapple I can whip up... :wink:

Hey all, so I've been working on an idea I had: A map that is a pizza. I get how to put custom textures on the terrain, but the pools pose a problem. I need a pool with a texture that I made, but I can't seem to get the texture to paint over that of the pool in the editor. Is there a good way to make such a custom pool? Thanks!

P.S. Any particular toppings I should include? :-D

What I did in the beginning was I installed a fresh CD copy to C:\Games\Battlezone 2 CD, and copied that folder before doing each install test. So, in my Games directory, I have \Battlezone 2, \Battlezone 2 CD, \Battlezone 2 CD Newkeys, and \Battlezone 2 CD 1.3 TA5. Well, had. Now that TA5 gave me back my tilde key, I deleted the Newkeys one, as it was useless. The plain Battlezone 2 one was where I originally had FE, G66, and I think Newkeys.

I installed TA5, and started it. The first thing that I noticed was that my profile that I made after the CD install had changed its name from "Fractangle" to some large string of gibberish. That's easily remedied, especially since I had simply created that profile to test the key with, so I proceeded in.

Now, my standardized test for the "workingness" of the tilde key was to start Alien Dunes with settings of Easy Small Large (so that I had a squad of 3 warriors to test individual selection from squad), so I started it. Lo and behold, I now have full functionality of the tilde key!

For scientific thoroughness, I may test public beta 4 at some point, but for now, I'm going to take a break from beating my computer over the head with a stick and instead have the computer AI beat me over the head (or hedoux? :lol:) with a stick.

I'm running Vista, and believe me, blech doesn't cover the half of it. I remember the good ol' days, when file systems didn't explicitly lie to you about where you were saving things... </offtopic>

As to the test, I'll start with TA5, since I've already downloaded its installer, and bigger numbers are fun.  :-D

I'm still having trouble, so my inner geek has decided to be scientific about this. Here's what I've done so far:

I've installed plain old fresh-off-the-cd BZ2, and it doesn't let me recycle units or select individuals from a squad.

I've made a copy of the fresh-off-the-cd folder, and installed newkeys to the copy. Still no success.

I've made another copy of the fresh-off-the-cd folder, and will try installing some version of 1.3; should I go with Public Beta 4, Public Beta 3, or Tech Alpha 5? I'll also try the 1.3 with and without Newkeys.

Check out the end of Gameprefs.ini.  In order to change things, you have to copy entries to Localprefs.ini.

I can't find it in my FE install folder or any subfolders. I was able to find it in a different install of BZII, but that hardly helps. :-(

Ooh interesting. I managed to fix the ~ key problem with all versions of BZ2 on my vista laptop.

I tried using the guide found here

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_console_commands#Other_bugs

Which pointed out the faulty driver, but when I uninstalled the driver it would reinstall -- and give me no option to disable. Some digging through my google searches eventually led me to a more permanent fix

The more permanent fix isn't working for me. It just keeps reinstalling the driver. I don't mind uninstalling it manually every time if that's what I need to do though. But as I said, this only fixes the console, it still doesn't let me recycle units or select individuals from a squad.

this problem is fixed by installing newkeys, i had the same problem.
here is where u can download newkeys92700:
http://www.bz2maps.com/files.html
read the instructions because i think u have to move a file manualy

I didn't see any instructions. I downloaded the executable, which I then ran and installed to my Battlezone 2 folder, and it looks like it doesn't really address the problem.

UPDATE: It works to open the console, which was what I tested. Since the console opened, I assumed that it works for the rest of the things. It doesn't. I can open the console, but I can't tell things to recycle and I can't select specific units from a squad.

I'm running Vista Home Premium (32 bit). The bug described there seems very likely the cause, and I'll test its advice and edit this post when the results are in.

EDIT: The key works now! Thank you so much! :-)

Battlezone 2 / My darn tilde key (~) isn't working.
June 08, 2009, 08:58:06 PM
Well, I'll be more precise. It's obviously working, as I can type it. I did so in the subject line of this thread. However, it DOES NOT work in BZII (I've tried in stock 1.2 and in FE). This means that I cannot:

  • Open the console.
  • Recycle any units.
  • Select specific units from a squad.

I have not experienced this on my old Win98 computer that is long since unplugged, nor on a relative's WinXP machine (nor on this same machine back when it had WinME on it). The key works normally in every other program. Please help!

Does it fix the bug in mission 3 where the enemy never sends the big attack wave thing? 'Cause I'm currently going 2 hours with a completely stable base and no sign of the attack that wiped me out the previous attempt. I read back through some threads in another spot here, and apparently it's a bug that comes and goes between attempts, but I'd rather not abandon this attempt if there's a way to fix it.

P.S. Thanks for putting up with all my nooby questions! :-)

Thanks for the help! I'll probably play my old FE install in the meantime, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for that 1.3 FE patch.
#14
Okay, so I'm trying to get a completely-up-to-date install going, and here's what I'm doing:

I install a fresh BZII, CD install, no mods.

I run BZ2_v13TechAlpha5_english-rc3.exe, selecting the proper directories and so forth.

I then run bz2cp_full.exe, selecting the proper directories etc.

Then, I follow the instructions to the letter in the readme of 2005-10-23 RevD Gold.zip, extracting it properly.

Lastly, I extract properly (following the directions contained within) the contents of Complete FE Map Pack Version 4.zip.

All the files were downloaded from http://www.valler.com/bz2/

I'm running a Vista Home Premium box with NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS graphics card, 3 gigs of ram, 640 gigs of harddisk space. If it makes any difference, I've got a Fedora Core 8 partition as well.

All the installer things go just fine, no errors there. When I go to start the game, it plays the "Activision" intro clip, which I press esc to skip. Then, it sort of freezes and I can alt+tab to get to a message box. I press OK, another pops up, and I OK it. Then, I get the error log message box thing:

Here's the error message log thing that I get:

It says it is "Unable to execute a required file 'bzshell_multi_warn_badping.cfg". Does this mean I need this file (if so, where to get it?), or is the problem more insidious?
