I've created this thread to explore and discuss one basic idea that I have for the story -- this thread is for exploration and discussion of the following story idea ONLY. That said, feel free to add on or qualify it. I intend for this thread to be read over by the story committee and if they like anything here, to take it from this thread, in whole or in part.

Bio-metal is a deity, and the Third Faction worships it as such. Or, perhaps they are its priests.
The Third Faction has evolved in conjunction with bio-metal -- they are not a hybrid biometal-human like the scions.

But, some link exists between the scions and the 3rd because of their shared bio-metal essence -- although the 3rd faction shares a much deeper connection with bio-metal than the scions. Thus, the scions feel a "call" from the bio-metal -- and the send out someone to answer it.

What path might a story like this take? What are some advantaves/disadvantages? Would such a world be consistent with canon?

Overdrive Terminal / Forum Tips and Invite System
December 06, 2009, 08:56:41 PM
So I know there are a bunch of mods here and that a couple of you have experience in forum administration. I'm looking for a some advice as far as forum administration goes, as we're thinking of making a Power Pirate forum invite-only as a sort of logical next step from the only nominally-existent state it's in now, with the end goal of a fully open forum in the "near future," whatever that means. The invite system would be temporary.

What tips do you have about getting a successful forum started and keeping it going?
If you were to start your forum over again, what would you do differently and why?
We're currently built off of MyBB Version 1.4.9 Simple Machines Forum, but we're open to exploring different ones. Why did you choose the forum type that you did?
Do you guys have any recommendations for forum programs, capchas, invite systems? (we're hoping to have for the moment a *users with x posts can invite y people via e-mail* type of system.)

Edited for clarity.

General Wiki Stuff / Let Users Create Pages
December 06, 2009, 07:03:40 PM
So I just tried to create a page on the Wiki and I get this little guy. It also appears when trying to create my user page.

Do you think maybe users could be allowed to create pages? If not users, as that might allow for bots, maybe a capcha before each page creation? Can you use capchas like that?

So, in trying to get Windows bootable from an old XP drive, we broke the master boot record and not it can't detect the file system for the main partition.

Does anyone know of any utilities to edit the MBR, preferably from a Ubuntu live disk? Our XP disks are cracked/lost.

Thanks in advance.

Overdrive Terminal / Power Pirate -- Electronic Rock Band
November 23, 2009, 10:14:01 AM
Take a peek at my brother's band, Power Pirate. Even through they're in high school, they're producing really professional-sounding stuff. Check them out.

Artist Statement - Power Pirate is a three-piece electronic rock band from Washington D.C. formed in the fall of 2007 by Emily Pakulski (guitar & vocals), Michael Garate (keyboards), and Annika Monari (drums). Annika and Emily hosted an informal session to meet new musicians. Among them was Mike, who stayed with the two with the goal of creating music with a fusion of innovation and traditional musical theory.

Since then, Power Pirate has found its place in the DC/MD/VA music scene through catchy melodies and complex instrumentation. Inspired by modern artists such as Muse, Infected Mushroom, and Daft Punk, this trio fuses 80s-styled techno synths with hard-rock drum beats and guitar riffs to create the new, uncategorized genre unique to Power Pirate.

Everything Power Pirate does is DIY -- from the songwriting, recodring, and mixing to the website and promotion, the band members do it all with parental support but not direction. I should know, I'm Michael's brother.

Album is called Plane Ticket and is set to be released in early 2010.
*Singles: Alone and And We're Off

Genre: electronic.rock, rock, pop, electronic

Overdrive Terminal / Miles Davis
October 24, 2009, 09:21:47 AM
So I recently decided to check out Miles Davis's relatively recent stuff, as in Bitches Brew and later releases, and I must say, I quite like it. What do you guys think? Why do so many people reject his last 30 years of work?

Dear seCret story CCommittee People (from here on out to abbreviated CCCP)

Please, if you're going to write the story in secret, at least release drafts at some point.

Sincerely,

The Community.

Overdrive Terminal / Shameless Plug: Power Pirate
October 04, 2009, 08:48:20 PM
When, in the course of human events, music is instituted among men, and whatnot.

Recently, my brother's band, Power Pirate, has released two singles to Amazon.com mp3.

I highly recommend that you guys check them out, give them a listen, and even download them.

Feedback is appreciated, both in terms of composition and production.

I prefer slightly "Alone," but I suggest that you give both a listen. Who knows? You might even like them ;)

iTunes releases coming "soon," as in, it takes iTunes some time to "process" new songs.

Overdrive Terminal / Math Rock
September 29, 2009, 01:51:33 PM
Does anyone know any good math-rock bands?

I decided to get into math-rock and I don't know where to start.

Ok. What we CAN do is design the new race (read: scions, it seems, was the consensus of this thread), it seems to me.

Discuss.

Name? Looks? Prototypes? Units?

Just nothing that could be construed as "story," like a history I would imagine.

Are we to do anything else, or just wait?

http://soundcloud.com/output-1

My friend Nick (also aka'd as "The Output") mentioned to me that we were welcome to use his music for the CP -- it's worth a look anyway, even if the community says no go. It's hard to describe his music -- it's I think the most accurate way he described it to me was "electro-drone/video game music." More information on that later -- for now, listen, and ask yourself if it's worth considering.

I think it might be premature to decide on a soundtrack before we even have a storyline, but it's something to keep in the back of your minds.

Songs I recommend listening to:
Questionable Discontent
Dance Please

Songs I, personally, would vote against:
Where did you go cover by Ticio Sante (REMIX) --> the version that he's remixing totally ignores rhythm. It's not his fault, honest.
10 AM Automatic (Black Keys Cover) by Harbingers of Cool --> that's nick's version of a song my band covered. it's interesting, but I don't think it'll fit in as a video-game soundtrack.

I've noticed an odd "feature" of running FE Rev. C in WINE, Ubuntu 8.10. The only graphical oddity in my BZ2 WINE experience happens thusly: when I enter the RTS view in the Relay Bunker, all of the enemy craft (Hadeans are the only ones I've tried to look at) show up as transparent red boxes. I'll get a screenshot up soon.

I will also play around and see if I can replicate this behavior in other races and in stock.

Good talk son.
