It may speed things up a bit, but chatrooms and MSN etc. all rely on people being online at the same time,

this is fairly inconvenient seeing as the community is quite international.

I'm not an IRC user, but I'm on MSN most of the time I'm connected to the net. IRC doesn't run in the background as well as MSN.
