What are the advantages to modding in 1.3?

I'v been using the 1.3 editor a little and I have not come accross any major issue yet? what is so wrong so I know what to avoid?

I dont sweat the editor so much its farly simple for them to bring it up to spec.

The main complaints are that it cannot run DLL's (although Nathan mentions it's because the DLL's call BZONE.EXE but renaming the editor to BZONE.EXE doesn't seem to run them either) and cannot be used during Instant or SP.

For me the most annoying thing is the console popping open with messages constantly.  I'd rather have a dedicated message window somewhere so I don't have to keep closing the console.
