undestructable buildings

Fishbone

recently, I come accross a very weird bug that I am quite sure is caused by my assets (DuneCommand).
After a certain time of multiworld play (real multiworld with at least 2 internet players) the enemy buildings become undestructable.
whatever you shoot at them, they recover in the next world update and the only way to kill them is demolish them with a constructor.

Commando mentioned that he has never seen the bug in stock maps, but he has seen it on some Greenheart maps. This indicates that it is not dll related.
so the culprit can be faulty odf or faulty aip. Did anybody come accross this problem or know how to fix it?

Bull Dog

I've never had that problem with the GH Mpi maps.  Sheesh that would be kinda of bad if the invinciable building was a gun tower.

Red Devil

What box???

Commando

I saw it on MPI Defense.  It was one of the mortar towers that would regain its health.  I haven't seen it in a while though.  I mainly saw it on the Public Beta.

Fishbone

oh, mortar towers. do you know whats the odf name? maybe I can find a trend. was it ibmtow? the intimidator?

Commando

Yes, the one that doesn't require power.  The funny thing was the there are about 4 on the maps and the other 3 were destructible.  The one wasn't.  I've seen this in two different sessions.

Bull Dog

Checking for odf name now.......oh ****.  I don't have the patch 1.3 installed on my new system yet.  Grr.  Its bad, I've had a X800Se video card for 2 days now and I haven't played 1 game on it.

APCs r evil

I've seen it more than five times, and I think all at MPI Defense and only that one Intimidator, the only cure I've found for it is, bigger guns (Or the constructor demolishing it, but good luck getting it close enough.), eight Maulers seem to do the trick. Of course that most likely isnt the answer you were looking for. I haven't really worried about it too much, since up till this point I didn't know the Intimidator ODF name.

Fishbone

after some investigation I can reproduce it now very easily with DuneC assets. I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that the dll is spawning 2 objects at the same place. I have to double check if there is a path-point under the intimidator...

Spawn

so it dies but another appears before its dead?

Fishbone

I dont think thats what happens.
I found that you can drive through indestructable buildings (in multiworld = 0, havent tested in multiworld = 3), as if they were not there. the collision box is somehow missing.
I am still investigating this.

multiworld = 0 means single play
multiworld = 3 means multiplayer over lan or internet

Actually I've had an Intimidator that wasn't collidable on the Instant "Defense" map.  It was the middle one and nothing but mortor splash damage could hurt it.

The next time I played that map this wasn't the case, the Intimidators died like any other building.

Fishbone

thats why I think it is a combination of asset and dll or asset and aip that causes this.

Commando

I doubt it would be aip.  The intimidators are spawned on the map with path points, I think.  I'm betting it is an asset or dll issue, if not both.

Just out of curiousity is the spawning instant? Is the unit spawning being done by stock DLL work or are some of the new maps using a custom DLL?

Could it be an issue of the engine spawning objects one right after the other too quickly, and encountering a random error in the collision box creation?

If it's a custom DLL spawning the objects I'd suggest sticking a slight pause between object spawning and seeing if that eliminates the problem.
