Australia is the same size as the USA and also covers 3 timezones. EST, CST, WST.

If only. There's the "big 4" for the continental US - Eastern, Central, Mountain & Pacific, going east-to-west. Then, Alaska and Hawaii have their own. And there's Arizona which doesn't do Daylight Savings Time (DST, called summer time in some countries), so it effectively bounces between Mounain & Pacific time. Parts of Indiana used to do the same.
