CD writing problem

I'm having a problem with my CD's that I've written. On my computer I will take a rewritable CD and write to it. Afterwords when I try to erase the files they have all turned read only and the CD's size has shrunk down to the exact size of whats on it so there's no abaliable space. It's very frustrating because I can't delete whats on it or write to it (which i need to do to get the password back for my other comp). Any suggestions?

P.S. I post here because it gets me answers much faster than Google.

Are you using CD-R or CD-RWs?

There should be an 'Erase Disk' button in your Common tasks pane, on the left. If not, then you've probably got a dud disk (or you're not using Windows XP, of course, in which case you've stumpted me). Or you might not have a CD-RW-compatible drive.

I'm using win2k. Not on this computer but yeah. The drive is perfectly CD-RW compatible. I've burned disks on it before.
