Overdrive Terminal / Re: HDD Death
October 12, 2009, 04:27:41 PM
Aww man, that sucks! I've had that happen to be before... twice!

The time my laptop hard drive failed, I was able to freeze the hard drive and recover back most of the data. There must have been a head crash, as some of the files could not be recovered.

I can't wait for Blu-Ray disks to get cheaper (especially the dual layer ones). Hard drives now are so big (not to mention an array of them) that you'd need hundreds of dvd's to make backups. Not a fun thing to do (and even less fun working out a system to sort the dvd's and retrieve the data you want). Not to mention, DVD's eventually, so backing up to another medium would be a necessity as well.

Battlezone 2 / Re: HELLOOOO EVERYYONNNEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

In case some people don't understand or are still curious, bzuniverse can be in legal trouble if there are links to illegal material on it - regardless of the country.

The forum staff aren't taking any chances - and neither should anybody else for that matter.

Battlezone 2 will be copyrighted for a LONG, LONG time. I think GSH said 75 years + author's life. So 75+ years from now it'll still be illegal unless you buy it. Crazy, I know, as Battlezone 2 isn't exactly flying off the shelves right now, but that's the Federal Law system (actually, international in this case, I think) for ya. Maybe some website like gametap will get it one day.

Agreed.

For my vista install, Firefox AND bzuniverse OR gmail = no login.

Google Chrome works, though  :-D!

Overdrive Terminal / Re: Is this wierd?

No, that's piracy - and piracy gets CmptrWz in trouble. Two week bans to people who post links to pirated material on BZU.

Now, if you want to get the game legally, try amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000085AHJ/qid=1051129569/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_4/102-5143072-3819336?v=glance&s=videogames&n=507846

Well apparently rocket scientists are so smart they don't bother with the cave-lion things. I'm on hughesnet and I can do all the port-forwarding in the world and that won't open my connection to others. It's a hughesnet thing, as others have documented problems with port-forwarding on hughesnet.

New. Had registered about a week before it posted, IIRC.

I was up until just a few minutes before that bot posted. Stay on the look out guys and notify me or any other mods online. Try to contact an admin once one comes online.

Battlezone 2 / Re: Weapons
September 12, 2009, 05:22:31 PM
There's also:

Jax: Defensive weapon that emits high-damage bouncing bombs behind your craft.
Bolt Mine- mine that zaps enemies with lightning when they get within range.
Force Field- Shield that converts any damage taken into lost ammunition (1 hit point lost = 1 ammo point lost). This also continually drains ammo when active.
Da Bomb! - A bomb with a 30 second detonation delay. Harmless when disarmed (i.e. shoot the bomb until it blows up), but kills everything on the map (1 million hit point damage for everything all over the map) if it detonates.

A) VSMIT forgot.

or B) So people will be more careful with their voting

or C) So voting is faster, as things won't be as "up for grabs" after everyone's voted.

I suppose though votes could be re-counted at a certain stage in voting. I.e. blow everyone's votes into oblivion and everyone votes again for what they want.

GHH's story has 5 votes for it but hasn't received much discussion. I'm nominating the story for removal from the possible plots.

Don't forget to type it up in a text editor and save it first .

How realistic do we want BZ2 to be? I haven't read into the FE storyline in-depth, but to me it seems like FE focused heavily on realism within the battlezone storyline.

I have to agree, that even though a self-containing paradoxical loop seems like a fun idea, it's not a very realistic one unless it can somehow get some further explanation (say, perhaps the very properties of biometal may be explainable as a paradoxical loop acting on something, creating a "strange matter" we know as biometal).
