Battlezone 2 / Re: The Physics Nerds' Theory Thread

What about hover tanks? How do they work?

Well, in the early thirties a man named Thomas Townsend Brown(BB effect) discovered a new form of propulsion later known as "Electrogravitics" which is accomplished by using a high-voltage power source with high-k elements on the front and rear of the craft "manipulating" gravity to lift the an object, or tank in this instance, causing people to think this is "anti-gravity" which it is actually creating your own gravity around an object(that is how you can maneuver in the air or in space).

The tanks and other vehicles in battlezone use what is known as a "flame-jet generator" sometimes multiple.
The Flame-jet generator uses a rocket or jet engine as the base and the generator is at the end, when the engine is turned on the FJG is adding negative ions to the flow of the jet allowing for electrogravitics to take place propelling the craft in virtually any direction only depending on the direction of the positive and negative ions.

This was just a quickie here, although there is an abundance of information out there, so have fun discussing this one! :D

Also give the constructor a scrap allowance, say 1 scrap per second.
And as a counter you can make ground based missile launchers that have enough range to take it out.

Making units to take it out is good, but you would need more than that to even the playing field.

I'd imagine we could have some fun with this... you could use this in the capital ship battles, as fighters are common, Just something to think about.

Battlezone 2 / How far have we come?
September 16, 2009, 08:27:09 AM
Hello everyone,
I haven't been on for a while now cause of some problems with work and school, really just the lack of free time. But I will start to get back into the community now that I have more free time.

I would like to thank all the people that have spent literally years trying to make Battlezone II the game it is today (you know who you are).
Now for those that don't really understand where I'm coming from, I would like you to reinstall Battlezone II and play it without any patches or MODs. In fact I encourage EVERYONE to do the same, because you cant truly appreciate the work that these guys have done unless you do so.

I recently reinstalled BZ2 on my computer and played it from scratch, then I installed PB5.1. Once you do this, you will have a glimpse of what these guys have done to make this game alive. There is a huge gap between what this game was and what this game is now.

Now I'm not going after anyone or trying to discourage anyone from participating in development, testing, and Q&A. But I ask you to think about the effort and time that these guys have put into this game before you post about what you don't like, what you think should be changed, or before you post at all.

So I encourage all of you to reinstall bz2 play it, then play pb5.1, after that... Post here.

Thank you.

That means, engine-wise, people should be looking at current games that deliver that same physics rush that BZ1 did that are capable of being expanded to support base building.

Here's your engine!
It's amazing, easily customizable, very powerful, free, and can adapt to any need.
I would even like to add this to the battlezone II engine, if possible... GSH?

Check it out!

Little green army men... YES!
A poster with planets on it... if you call that giant wingcommander poster with the galaxy chart on it... I think you will find our solar system in the Terra sector.
UHF? Hilariously dumb movie, also a frequency used on old TVs and now new TVs.

The fact that there aren't very many modelers in the community left also makes this not feasible.

I wouldn't say that there aren't very many 'modelers', but I would say that there aren't very many modelers that can make textures and put the models in to bz2... and still have them work :D

I can make models but I'm not good at making textures, I can get models in game but I can't make the work properly. (objects are always sideways)

If we could get the community to all work together on the patch; making models, textures, and getting them in game, then we could get hi-res vehicles in bz2.
The problem with that is many people don't have a computer that will run a game like Crysis, so to start we would have to make 'baby steps' improving the textures and models, and maybe make a 'enhanced feature pack' for those who want to see a 'crysis' like version of Bz2.

Just a thought :D

So when I play as scion, my warrior tanks will randomly go out of my base and start attacking enemy units such as, scavs, extractors, enemy units attacking my scavs, and so on.

Is this supposed to happen? Is there a way to control when they go out to "hunt"?

I was on alien dunes last night with normal ai settings, I aborted the game, then exited to the main menu and got this:

Well, for some reason, when I "alt-tab" out of bz then back in, everything goes back to normal... except for the problem with the movie screen in the main menu being a solid white.
Other than this, everything is great.

Here's an odd one for ya, this happens every time I start bz
It appears that the graphics are not rendering correctly, anyone else have this problem?
