If you're running vista, C:\program files\... is protected against changes. As it should be.

Try installing BZ2 to c:\users\<LOGINNAME>\Documents , i.e. the root of your MyDocs folder. Then you can modify things all day long. Doing that helps w/ broken mods, too -- ones that assume they can write to the BZ2 folder.

Well I saved them outside of that folder then replaced the files that wouldn't save with the ones that are edited and now my teams are still Red and Blue in MPI  :x

when you edit localprefs files, DONT use 'save as'.

open it in notepad, make the changes, the close without clicking save. A dialog box will appear, click 'save changes'. Notepad tries to create a .txt type file if you use save as, and it cant write to a read-only directory.

only if you put .txt behind the name, if you put .ini or .odf or .[....] than it will be a different format. I'm sure about it as thats how I edit 1/2 the files, edit the original, save under a different name with the same extention.

Griz, your are running Vista arent you, do you try to edit those files in the programs file folder ? <- Didnt see GSHs reply ... :)

Yeah did that m8 saved onto desktop and then removed old files replace with others can you tell me if this is right?

What I find strange in that screenshot is that the .odf file has its extention shown, the .ini files do not ... are you sure they are still .ini's?

Is that the only edit you made there as I will do the edit for you and post the file on my server, so you could try that ...

well this is the entire file what I posted on my server ... dont know why that would cause a crash ...

// The following are settable by the user. They are assigned to the
// default values, as if this file was empty. Comments above them
// should indicate what possible settings are available.

// Note that only things that cannot affect game synchronization are
// in here (views, etc).

// User's changes should be placed in this file, below the
// [UserPrefs] line below.

[UserPrefs]

// And, for teamplay (i.e. team strat or MPI) games, the teamcolors.
// TeamA is used for teams 1..5, and TeamB is for teams 6..10
TeamColorTeamA = "235 100 121 255" // Griz-black
TeamColorTeamB = "108 108 228 255" // Griz-green

edit: try setting the 'read only' option, perhaps Vista doesnt like it if you can actually edit a file ...(%$!@^$$^VISTA!!! :))

xSSx Grizzly

Causes crash but, the one you show on here look much larger (lot more words) in notepad ???

Red Spot

Ok, just tried your colors and they work for me. I'll show you a screenshot in a moment, but it surelly isnt black and green, more like washed out red and blue .... ;)

edit: try again, I uploaded my own file, sorry ... :s (changed now)
*Something intelligent, yet funny*

xSSx Grizzly

Here look still red  :x Damn game  :lol:

Red Spot

Like I already mentioned, the colors you chose are just a bit more washed out that the original colors.

For really black, try 0 0 0 255 and see the difference :)
(I would try something in between, like 150 50 60 255 for a much darker red-ish color)

Not sure if you know this but this is the RGB-code, basicly just means the first entry is Red, 2nd Green, 3rd Blue - RGB
255 = white/full color
0 = black/no color

255 255 255 255 would give you pretty bright ships
0 0 0 255 would give you pretty dark ships

Go into word or excel or whatever other program you have on your system that allows you to select colors, pick a custom color and check its RGB values. Its a lot easier than rebooting the game 10 times.
