Doesnt strike me as a good way of responding to the most powerful special...and by some arguments...weapon that an entire Race of BZII has.

Also, if you really dont want to do it. Why not give others the oppotunity/knowledge/tools to do it for themselves?

Why should he?  So he can be attacked more?  And for a Beta???  Phhhht! And why would he allow someone else to run through that gantlet of backstabbing and invective too?  I certainly wouldn't.  I've withheld all of my work from such ingrates also.  As a wise man once said, "Screw 'em".

The reasons for what happened are many. But they include IMO GSH's almost total obliviousness to other individuals (i.e. being rather rude).

There are indeed examples of how people behaved in a manor towards GSH that was uncalled for and overly abusive. However, there are times when GSH has also....inflamed things past the point where it was necessary (IMO).

And, there are that small minority who are prepared, and have given both sides a chance (DF for example).

Being self righteous only works if your pursuing truth.

GSH can do whatever he wants. He doesn't want to put it in the game. That should be enough.

Second thing, GSH wasn't rude. You asked what you would classify this feature. He said "it won't happen." A simple direct reply to your question.

I was quite clearly refering to the larger picture and history of recent BZII poltics.

Here is a question: How come you seem to get (what i would call) '' all high and mighty'' when there is any form of critism or complaint...yet seem to  expect people to take snide remarkes all of the time?

More weapon HPs won't happen. Modifying blink to be a charge weapon won't happen. If saying this is "rude," then learn to Deal With It(tm).

And with reguards to all these 'features'...I thought one of the primary purposes of 1.3 was to give modders the abilty to...mod.
You dont have to 'inculde' a feature in 1.3. Just inculde its possiabilty.
That is how I would attempt to make sure the community doesnt split in half and die.

I thought the primary purpose of 1.3 was to fix bugs, end of story. Adding modding courtesies was a side effect of Nathan and Ken's generously contributing thier time to adding new features.

Not to have flame wars of self-righteousness.

However, on Zero Angel's point. The reason why the '' ...the primary purpose of 1.3 was to fix bugs...'' is to make the game more enjoyable. If the 'solution' to those bugs causes more harm than is nessesary, esp if another option is avialable. Then surely the correct course of action is to respect one another and discuss a suitable solution that takes into account not only the gamers, but also the people that have to produces the patch as well.

If you have *any* problem with my desicions. PM and i *will* make an effort to be reasonable. However. Any effort will take into account as many people as possiable and will not be Biased towards anyone.

How would you say he was rude?  By being upset when kicked in the teeth?  That's not being rude, that's being defensive.

For *years*, Nathan has told us that flying was a bug in the code and would be eliminated in 1.3 and for *years* he has endured the whining about it being removed.  Anybody would get upset if subjected to that, especially me.  In response, he kept saying that if you wanted to hover, just stick with 1.2. No biggy.  It continued.  [Sigh]  (paraphrased) Guess what folks?  I really don't care. It's gone in 1.3.  Just play 1.2 if you want to hover.

Before the 1.3 Beta was released, we knew that there would still be resistance, but none of us anticipated that things would get personal.

What gets me is the the lack of understanding what a Beta release means.  It means, "Okay, we are close and this is what we have so far. Please test it out and let me know what you think."  Indeed, some were appreciative of the new features, but the knee-jerk-in-the-groin reactions experienced - and tolerated... - were something I would expect from some inbred hillbillys, not the people here.

Does anybody here truly know and appreciate what Nathan has sacrificed and been through the past few years making 1.3?  No, you don't.  Neither do I.  I have an idea though having been a programmer in the past.  Making mods is child's play compared to programming.  I'd compare modding to painting a room as opposed to designing and building a house.  You guys really have no idea of what what's been accomplished.  (Cantata does)  But no, let the Nathan whippings begin because the Beta ships are a little sluggish and What? No hovering?!?!?!?

So, basically, thanks to the personal and tolerated attacks, the community just basically shot themselves right in the proverbial foot, killed the goose who laid the golden eggs, etc.  And I don't blame Nathan one bit.

So dream on and make all the wishlists you want to your heart's content because now it just ain't gonna happen. And enjoy all those the nice A/V's in 1.2 too.  You've earned it.
