Mr X

They were completely sane, they just had a different set of ethics that we may have trouble understanding. Its actually possible that they got ethics completely the way God(/s) wanted humanity to.

And typing that intelligaby? Doubt it.

Mr X

I'm just saying, why is killing people necessarily wrong? Ethics is just something that humans have come up with.

Well it always seems very wrong when someone's trying to do it to you.

Clavin12

That's because it's in us. It's our nature to kill, but it's also put into us to know that it is wrong.

Mr X

No it isn't,

What's in our nature is to hurt other people as much as it takes to get to the top of the chain of command.

Mmmm, not everyone. Its impossible to bang everyone in the same category. There are people out there who don't care and just get on with things, others like you say will go through anything that stands in their way.

Mr X

I said its in our nature, its in every one of us,

its just that in some people the higher brain overcomes it.

And as for the mayans, if you thought that killing one person would please the gods and prevent hundreds from dying of starvation, would you do it?

and you also have to consider that this is a completely different culture who, if they saw how say the Chinese acted would be horrified as they would believe that they were disrespecting ththe mayan gods. since the mayans were untouched by the evolving people of europe and asia, they decided that human sacrifice was the best way to please the their gods.
So we only get one chance can we take it
And we only get one life can't exchange it
Can we hold on to what we have don't replace it
The age of innocence is fading..... Like an old dream

Mr X

And being as no religion has ever been proven, they could have gotten it right...

Isn't it strange that almost all these kind of topics come back to religion?

I'm not commenting on that, I'll offend someone.

well, being as it is hard to talk about another culture of any belief without refering to the religion of the area

Religion is the basis of a society so. I mean, it is not always the basis, but what becomes the belief system is then the religion by definition, and thus all societies have a religion. The lack of religion is a religion in the sense I am speaking.

Society determines one's morals. (A few things do, I use the struggle between different morals (personal, society, and law) as a key internal issue in aRc.)

Morals determine laws.

Morals and laws how one acts and reacts.

And so on and so on. It will eventually fall back thus far to religion if you wish to do so.
