Overdrive Terminal / OpenGL
December 18, 2009, 08:07:07 AM
I've been having problems with all my Q3 games in Windows 7, and it's getting really bloody annoying. The same games worked fine on XPMCE using the same drivers (which haven't been updated since).

Here's my console spam. It's for JK3:JA, so I don't know how legible it will be to you.

Battlezone 2 / Looking for a utility
December 17, 2009, 10:09:50 AM
Zero Angel posted a link to a very impressive program not long ago that enhanced BZ2's graphics by a long way. I've had a good look and I can't find it, does anybody else remember?

Overdrive Terminal / Simon Cowell - Diabolus in Musica
December 17, 2009, 09:31:22 AM
Well, it seems that the X-Factor winner is poised to be the Christmas Number 1 again this year... :(

Ah, hold on, I seem to be forgetting something!

Rage Against the Machine is the bookie's favourite to knock Cowell off the top spot :-D

Thanks to a massive public uprising, the now 16-year-old song (currently at number 70 in the UK charts) is prepared to force its way straight to the top in the coming weeks. The campaign currently has three-quarters of a million people backing it, including several famous faces such as Phil Jupitus. The campaign angers Cowell, who has branded the campaign as 'stupid' and 'cynical'.

Is this the end of the reign of the tyrannical music mogul?

The 1.3 Community Project / Restarting
December 10, 2009, 12:31:41 AM
Most modders have jumped ship on this one. Thus the idea to restart has appeared.

I want as many people as possible to cast a vote on this one. Even if you don't intend to have a part in the CP, cast a vote.

A complete restart will likely mean going back to the drawing board on all sides - not just the storyline. This would mean that assets already created may well be useless, though may also be incorporated. Fortunately not many have yet been created.

It does, however, that there will be more than three modders working on the project as there are now, and we will have a much more realistic storyline that fits with what we know so far.

Overdrive Terminal / What Happened to HAL?
November 30, 2009, 12:54:59 AM
I booted my system up this morning only to find it complaining of a certain missing system boot DLL. My first thought was 'well, I'm sure I'm better off without him', but soon began to think 'oh sh*t'. I've had this on XP and it's fairly easy to fix, and indeed there are tutorials all over the internet, but in W7 I have no idea. Does anybody else have a solution, or at least know where to look for one?

Battlezone 1 / Windows 7
November 28, 2009, 01:23:45 AM
I have finally got BZ1 working on W7.

When I asked about at BZC, I was directed to the installer that Spock posted here a few weeks back. Turns out that gets it working, even though it is illegal. I'm quite suprised.

However, my AVIs don't play and my audio stutters whenever there are game graphics on the screen (by which I mean menus are fine and audio plays perfectly in the few seconds between pressing escape and the menu showing up). Any idea what could fix this?

Overdrive Terminal / RelevantKnowledge
November 21, 2009, 03:58:32 AM
Somebody has managed to install RelevantKnowledge on my computer.

I'm running MBAM now, but it hasn't picked anything up - is there anything I need to do specifically to get rid of it? I've had a good look on google, but none of the methods I've found work.

Help!

Overdrive Terminal / Heavy Gear II
November 20, 2009, 12:41:12 PM
I just decided to isntall and play this the other day... aside from the fact that the cutscenes and music don't work ( :x) I'm amazed at the fact that I unisntalled it... what an incredible game!

I've also remembered how much it inspired some of my BZ maps - ones you haven't seen yet :P - and Perfidious's original storyline (and the final one - the dead planet turned into a weapon was inspired by the mass driver.

Anybody else had/got it?

Overdrive Terminal / Mathematic Fallacy
November 19, 2009, 11:52:28 AM
I know many of you will know this already, but for those of you who don't, this will destroy the foundation of mathematics as you know it. Yes, that's probably exaggerating

Let's say a = b. Both are non-zero integers.

a = b

Let's multiply both sides by a.

a^2 = ab

Take away b^2 from them.

a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2

Factorise it...

(a - b)(a + b) = b (a - b)

Cancel the (a - b)s...

(a + b) = b

a + b = b

Remember that a = b and substitute...

b + b = b

Simplify it

2b = b

And, finally, divide by b.

2 = 1

Yes, you heard me right.

2 = 1.

Battlezone 1 / BZ1 and Windows 7
November 17, 2009, 01:30:19 PM
Itching to try Ultraken's new experimental build, I just installed my old BZ1, patching it straight up with 1.4, large assets and servers.dat. Unfortunately, when I try to launch it, I get an Application Error which, to me, isn't particularly helpful.

bzone.exe - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

Have I gone wrong with my install somewhere, added a file where I shouldn't have, missed a step? It's been so long since I played BZ1 :(

Battlezone 2 / The Physics Nerds' Theory Thread
November 13, 2009, 12:47:16 AM
Ask here for explanations of the Battlezone Universe, and the physics nerds (I believe NK1 and I, anybody else?) will try to answer your questions with real-world physics theory :-D

Let's start with power generators.

Converting biometal into energy is much easier than most metals due to its unusual nuclear structure. When it is vapourised and ionised into a plasma, its nucleus becomes unstable. It releases massive amounts of gamma radiation very quickly, decaying almost into nothing. The gamma radiation can be used to generate nuclear power.

Maps and Modding / Little Missing Bits
November 05, 2009, 01:38:23 PM
This idea was thrown about a while back when I discovered some textures that weren't used fully. I've since had a good look in the XSI pack with 3DE, and I've discovered even more features that were unused and probably should be. Shabayev's own model is never used (she has a normal pilot model with a different head which is animated when she talks). The Bomber doesn't animate as the bomb drops (rising wings and an opening undercarriage). CTF flags don't idle animate.

Hence I propose something that may be shot down before it's even left thr ground. A mod which re-enables all these small features.

Of course, since most of these are model issues (if they can be called that) then I will be useless in fixing them, so I'm just here to present the idea.

Maps and Modding / Pluto Texture Modification
November 04, 2009, 11:52:14 AM
There's one thing about BZ2's textures that really annoys me, and that is the textures that have PLUTO splashed across them in big letters. When you have some ISDF tunnels on Mire, it looks really out of place no matter how small it is. And for some reason, the baseplate on those tunnels are purple... :S

So I decided to remove the textures. I extracted the three textures I could find that have pluto written on them and put them in my addon folder, then removed the text. When I loaded the game... the text was still there. I know for a fact that I'm using the right textures, I've checked with the modder's data pack. But they still don't show up.

Why is this?

And what's making the baseplates purple?

Overdrive Terminal / Guests, guests and more guests...
November 01, 2009, 01:38:49 PM
It's quite astonishing how many guests there are on this board. Right now, for example, there are 21 people browsing - only 5 are registered members (Steeveeo, Mr X, Raven, ScarletTomato and myself). Almost all of these users are browsing the forums (only one is Nothing - or nothing you can see...).

I would urge these guest users to join in the fun - if you don't find what you're looking for, you can ask :-D. Remember, this community is friendlier than most, new members are most often welcomed - with open arms.

The 1.3 Community Project / Soundtracks... again...
October 21, 2009, 12:17:50 PM
I tend to spend my free time at school in the music tech lab. I do some work there, but occasionally I get really bored with it and just fiddle with Cubase.

I would like to put forward the results to the community project.

So far I have one track fully written (it's short, very sad, and ideal for the end of the last scene that none of you know about yet) and one being worked on (heavy rock, edging metal, very good for aggressive combat). Jamsh has seen these results but I'll get them up to Youtube or Mediafire or something for you all to see.

Well, I just finished installing my nice new shiny copy of Windows 7 and I've discovered I have a problem. My screen resolution is locked at 640x480, and none of the options in Control Panel will change it. It says my hardware won't support the options... and yet before upgrading I was running at 1024x768 with no trouble at all. My colour depth locked to 16, when before 32-bit was no problem at all.

Research suggests a drivers issue, but W7 says all my drivers are up to date. Are there any other options or things I can do to try to fix it?

Overdrive Terminal / Rediscovering Quake II
October 15, 2009, 06:29:30 AM
I've recently bought the Quake pack from Steam and I must say that it's blown me away. I owned Quake 2 on a second-hand CD roughly three years ago and played it all the way through before the CD snapped in two, and I was really disappointed when I lost it. Having downloaded it on Steam (and burnt the soundtrack to a CD - Sonic Mayhem really is awesome) I have rediscovered the old classic. And I've finally got hold of it's three expansion packs, one of which I have discovered was made by the same people who made TRO.

I've also discovered Quake II Evolved, which once I've added a texture pack to makes the game look even better on my PC than HL2. All that's missing now is something resembling high poly models.

Even without these addons it is still one of the best games I have ever played. I think I have a new favourite.

Overdrive Terminal / Steam being troublesome
August 18, 2009, 10:46:48 AM
I decided I would resurrect my copy of Half-Life 2 this morning and launched Steam, only to find that whatever I did it wouldn't recognise a connection to the Steam network. I've run through everything on the Steam website that relates to my issues, nothing. I googled for a bit, and all hits pointed to a complete reinstallation. So I uninstalled Steam and all the games I had on it (The Orange Box, Codename Gordon, Garry's Mod, HL2DM, Minerva, Missing Information and SMod) and reinstalled Steam.

Now, every time I launch Steam, it says 'Steam.exe (Main Exception): Unable to load library 'steam.dll''. I downloaded a dll from the net (something I don't like doing) and this time it did the same with steamui.dll. Downloaded that one, still the same error. I found an image of somebody's clean Steam folder and there was a hell of a lot missing from mine. The problem, in that case, was fixed by the guy sending his steam installation over (minus Steamapps).

1.- Has anybody else had this problem and fixed it? What do I do?

2.- Is there any chance one of you guys could send me your Steam folder, minus your own games?
