Battlezone 2: 1.3 Public Beta 5.1 / Mods in 5.2
November 23, 2009, 08:42:00 PM
I'm curious... is there any way that a built-in mod manager with a sufficient size of mods already included be an impossibility for future patches?  A recyler variant option has been added to the original game; wouldn't a mod option follow a similar principle?

What about adding a lot of the maps that the community makes?  Certainly that wouldn't be too hard.

The main reasons these maps and mods don't get used so much is because they are hard to find and complicated for people such as myself who aren't as accustomed with the workings of Battlezone and it's many mods.

Battlezone 2 Mods / Universal Reasources Page
November 05, 2009, 11:23:34 AM
I was wondering if the ACP for this forum allows for the addition of HTML pages.  If so, I think it would be awesome if a resources page was created.

The page would essentially be a giant compilation of community files (completed mods and maps, mod utilities, patches, and whatever else).  Sort of like an updated version of BZScrap.  Dirrect downloads probably wouldn't be a possibility, but that isn't a big deal.

This wouldn't be an extreamly hard project and it could prove to be very useful.  I'd even set it up if you'd like.

1.3 Public Beta 5: Tech Alpha 5 / PB4
June 15, 2009, 03:59:52 PM
Yah... you're supposed to patch this to pb4, right?  Well, when you guys released ta5, you got rid of all of the pb4 links, so you can't update the original any more.  Can someone please provide a pb4 link?  Thanks.

Overdrive Terminal / Sooo... ummm... help?
June 03, 2009, 11:45:51 AM
You probably haven't been wondering why I haven't been on lately.  Well, my internet has been doing backflips lately.  First, my (well, my parents') laptop lost connection to the internet.  After a little searching on my dad's work computer, we found the net password and put it in.  Everything connected back up... but IE is not working at all.  It says all of the pages cannot be found; I suspect a virus, as everything else works and I know for a fact that that computer is messed up.

So... not too bad, right?  Well, when we reconnected the laptop, my computer lost connection.  Well, it didn't loose connection, it just said "acquiring network address" and would never actually connect.  So, I googled the problem on my dad's work computer and I found a site that told me to uinstall and reinstall my ethernet adapter.  So, I went into the device manager and uninstalled what I thought was the ethernet adapter... but now I'm not so sure.  I don't know what to reinstall either, so it was really an extremely dumb move on my part.

Here is what I have left for network adapters:

  • 1394 Net Adapter
  • Direct Parallel
  • Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
  • Inetl(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection - Packet Scheduler Miniport
  • Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster v2 - Packet Scheduler Miniport
  • NETGEAR FA312 Fast Ethernet Adapter - Packed Scheduler Miniport
  • WAN Miniport (IP)
  • WAN Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport
  • WAN Miniport (L2TP)
  • WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
  • WAN Miniport (PPTP)

And under other devices, it has "Network Controller" with an exclamation point in a yellow circle on it.  I know nothing about internet, so I have no idea what device I'm missing.  If anyone else knows, that'd be great to have that info.

I tried moving Firefox from my computer to the laptop via jump drive and it worked, but that's about the only positive thing I can think of.

If you can't help, sorry for wasting your time.  If you can and do, thx!  If you can and don't... jerk. :-P

I can't mod, but I can give some ideas.  Some are already used in mods, and some are better than others, but they can't all be keepers.

New Units:
--Dropship Transport - This could be much like the IDSF dropships seen in the game... but turned into a mobile unit.
--Infantry Squad - This would be a simple squad of five or six infantry, each equipped with rocket launchers.
--Jump-pack Infantry Squad - This is much like the regular Infantry Squad, but has boosters that can be used to get from place to place with more speed.
--Recycler - It's simply a recycler that can be built and moved to a different location for a forward base.
--Combat Constructor - Many of you are probably thinking of the second constructor in the GH mod.  Well, this is not what I have in mind.  The Combat Constructor would be a hover vehicle and much faster than the original.  It would only be able upgrade and construct things like Relay Bunkers, Forward Service Bays, Gun Towers, Rocket Towers, and what ever other defensive structures are available.  It could also build buildings for scrap pools (bellow).  Structures would also have a slight mark-up in price when built with this.
--Mine Layer - The mine layer would be able to roam around and plant mines, but would also be very weak, very expensive, and could only lay a maximum of ten mines at once.
--Vampire - The vampire would be a Scion unit equipped with a weapon that looks much like the "healing beam", but instead of healing the enemy, heals whoever is firing while draining the other unit's health.

New Weapons:
--Repair Beam - This would just be the weapon used by Service Trucks, but available for other units as a special.
--Tracer Round - This would be an infantry weapon that fires into a ship (has to be in the cockpit), but instead of injuring the enemy, it plants a tracer that reveals the enemy base and units on radar and in the relay bunker.
--EMP - This weapon temporarily disables a ship's weapons and thrusters.  It can't move or shoot.  However, it subtracts 50% ammo.
--Virus - This is an infantry weapon.  The only way to activate it is to get within a few feet of the enemy vehicle, but once used, slowly drains the enemy's health until the unit is destroyed.
--Jumper - No, not thumper.  The jumper is a booster for vehicles, much like the booster for infantry, but does not go as high and can be used multiple times.

New Structures:
--Rocket Tower - This is just like in the GH mod.
--Wall - Already there, just not able to be built.
--Forward Service Bay - This is a miniature service bay, like in the GH mod, but can be built anywhere and repairs and resupplies (but much slower than the big service bay).
--Advanced Power Generator - Just like in the GH mod.
--Scout Factory - This is a miniature factory that can be built anywhere, but only builds weaker units (Thunderbolt, Avenger, Jackal, ect).
--EMP Tower - This is a gun tower that is equipped with the EMP weapon from earlier.  It cannot fire at air units.
--Shield - This adds a small, rechargable shield over all buildings.  It could either be an upgrade for all buildings, or a building that only works for a certain range.

Scrap Pool Structures:
--Landing Pad - This structure drops off Sabre tanks (or Warriors) every ten minutes.  An upgrade can be purchased for 120 that doubles it's production speed.  It doesn't necessarily have to be a landing pad, though, as it wouldn't make much sense to put that on a scrap pool.
--Scrap Drill - This structure bring scrap metal up from the ground at twice the speed of an upgrade extractor, but does not collect it.  The only way to collect it is to use scavengers.  It is also very expensive.
--Regenerator - This structure heals and supplies units and structures on the controlled team, but at an extremely slow rate.
--Armored Extractor - This is an upgrade for the advanced extractor.  It pulls up scrap at the same rate, but has a weak gun tower on top to protect it.

To Be Continued...

WTF is it?

I think I've gotten it to admit that it's a program... can you?

After a while, I'll post my discussion with it.  It becomes kind of addicting...

They look kinda cool on a black or dark gray background.

Battlezone 2 / 2v2
May 15, 2009, 03:10:25 PM
How hard would it be to take a four player map, or a bigger two player map, and somehow make it a two verse two?  Is it possible?  I'm talking two bases against two bases, not just a pilot and a commander on each team.

I really think this is needed...

How hard would it be to create an alliance system?  If it's not that hard... would anyone be interested?  I'd do it myself, but I can't mod.

Or maybe there's already some maps out there that are 2v2?

Battlezone 2 / I've always wondered....
March 28, 2009, 02:05:10 PM
Ever since I first played Battlezone 2, I've wondered why were the doors to the gun towers placed facing the direction that the guns are facing?  Doesn't that mean that using the guns forces you to present yourself to the enemy?  I know they spin and all... but still, I could never shake the question.

Overdrive Terminal / .efw Files
February 23, 2009, 08:57:01 PM
Okay, this has happened several times now.  I find a program that I want and I go to download it, but when I open the download it wants to open as an .efw file.

Now, I have never heard of this type of file, but I've been told it's something like a zip file, but altered thanks to my CA Security program.  However, I have been unable to unzip it with WinRAR and it has no default application to open with.

Any idea on how I can work with these files?

Battlezone 1 / Battlezone on XBM
February 15, 2009, 11:08:10 AM
Okay, I know most of you have very little appreciation for console gaming, but what would you guys think about putting Battlezone on the Xbox Marketplace?  I was talking with one of my friends yesterday on XBL about Halo Wars, and it somehow got turned into a discussion about putting Battlezone on the marketplace.  Now I can't shake the thought.

I think it would be awesome, especially if they included online play, and I shouldn't think it'd be too hard to do, either... but I don't really know a ton about that sort of stuff.  Activision would likely make a killing off of it as well.  I was thinking about emailing this to Activision, but I doubt they'd bother taking the idea into consideration if I was the only one to send it in, especially since Battlezone is as old as it is.  What do you guys think?  Would you help?

What makes the game so good?

Maps and Modding / River Styx (map idea)
November 24, 2008, 04:20:20 PM

Think it would work?

Red = lava
Brown = land
Dark brown = high land
White = scap pool

It will be about the size of chill, give-or-take a couple hundred meters.

Btw, where can I get a blank map?

Battlezone 1 / Radar

Is there a way to change the radar to a minimap? :|
That would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much help.

Which do you value more?  Freedom?  Or equality?

So far, every single person I've talked to (which is around 20-30) has said freedom.  So why so many socialists?  If you do choose a side, back it up.  It's not that I want a war in this thread, it's that I want to actualy see some sensible reasoning on each side.

Personaly, I would rather have freedom.  I think a capitalistic economy is best for our country, where the hard working get rich and the not-so-hard working sink to the bottom.  Of course, a minimum wage wouldn't be a too bad, so long as it stays fairly low.  I don't like the idea of brining myself and others at my level and higher down so that a couple of lazy people can move up.  I know some people aren't lazy, but with enough effort, I believe even the poorest can rise to the top.

Really, true communism would be the best... but historical communism has taught us that that doesn't usualy work as planned.  So, what about you guys?
#18
I'm thinking about trying to learn how to mod BZ2.  The problem is, I have absolutely no experience with anything that you guys work with.  I have no modeling programs (and have never modeled), I can't read any form of code that would be used in the game, and the only game I know how to mod is RA2, which is incredibly easy to do.

So where could I start before starting my series of extremely annoying and possibly repetitious questions?
#19
So, here's the scoop.  I was on a forum site when I noticed some random links on words that just lead to stupid search engins.
So, after a while, these windows started coming up that were just blank. I decided to see if it was just the site, so I moved to another site. Unfortuately, they kept oppening.
So then, I copied one of the sites urls and did a google search, nothing. Then I went back to the site and found the url changed. So I tried that url, this time something came up.
Sure enough, I found something about a file called GETMODULE24.EXE.
After further searching, I learned that GETMODULE24.EXE is malware and I also found out three locations that it takes root in.
I instantly killed the program and perminately delete all files (yes, I emptied the recycling bin).
Do you guys think it's gone? The popups stopped and the file didn't come back...
One of the sites wanted me to download Reg Run to delete the files, but I didn't want to take any chances with downloading something like that.
Here's where I found the files that I deleted:
C:/Program Files/GetModule
C:/Program Files/iCheck
C:/Documents and Settings/(User Name)/Application Data/GetModule
I just deleted those three folders and it seemed to have stopped. If you try this, don't forget to delete them from the recycling bin (I'm not sure if they can do anything from there or not...).
I then did a virus scan (CA)... but the weirdest thing kept happening. It kept deleting the same non-existant files in C:/WINDOWS/Fonts/' and the strangest thing is, neither the files nor the ' folder exist... and it's the same files in a loop. I let it run for almost three hours and it never stopped.
It seems to have stopped..... I haven't had any other problems all day, but I still get the random links.

So I'm trying to run through the campaign with the editor because I've never finished it yet (I'm too lazy and the non-patched version that I'm far on in the campaign won't let me save).  Oddly, I keep getting a message when I play that says "Battlezone has requested to terminate a log unusualy" or something like that, then I get this message with the only option as "quit":
